The apprehension of 77 protesters in London on Saturday 19 January has sparked fury among people who have been taking to the streets over the last 15 months against the genocide in Gaza.

Millions have been taking part in widespread protest against the crime of the state of Israel against Palestinians in the UK, alongside similar protest actions across the world. The cease fire that came to force from last Sunday, after all the bombing, starvation, mass expulsion, ethnic cleansing that the Israeli state has carried out, is certainly a welcome news to all the people who have been continuously calling for an end to this genocide. With the ceasefire, the people in Gaza were able to start the day without the horrific roars of the bombs and drones, after intensified attacks of Israel up to the moment that the ceasefire was to take effect.

At this time, it was despicable to see the presence of IDF and Israeli police force who were despatched to Palestinian territory in order to prevent any form of gathering  and celebration to mark the occasion. This level of vengeance against Palestinian people, however, was not limited to the Israeli state.

The policing and arrests that took place on Saturday 19 January in London, is certainly part and parcel of the same campaign of the US administration, UK, Germany and other Western allies of the Israeli state to yet again ring-fence and safeguard this criminal state. The banning of any protest against the crimes of the state of apartheid in Germany and arresting anyone opposing the genocide in Palestine under the pre-text of “maintaining peace and order”,  is the same policy that was once again enacted in the streets of London.

The actions of the Metropolitan Police and arrest of the protesters could not possibly have taken place without the knowledge and full backing of the UK government. Kier Starmer’s government has continued exactly the same policies as that of Rishi Sunak towards Israel. The supply of arms, the protection that has been given to the regime of apartheid in Israel in all respects, have not changed at all.

The ceasefire in Gaza is now in place, but the crimes against Palestinians has not ceased. The settlements, the indiscriminate arrests without any charges, the burning  of the homes of Palestinians, … are taking place every minute of every day. No one has any doubt that Netanyahu and co in Israel only intend to continue their genocide and pursue their policy of eradication of anything known as Palestinian and Palestine.

We, stand together with the millions of peace-loving and humane people of this country who have taken every opportunity to express their disgust against the perpetrators of the genocide not only in Israel but all those who have supported the crimes of Israel. We condemn the UK government’s protection and alliance with Israeli state, and its crimes against humanity. We demand an end to this apartheid and call for the recognition of the right of people of Palestine to have their own state, same as that of Israel, and all the other states.
