Protest against the US militarism and atmosphere of war in the Middle East
The tension in the Gulf region is continuously escalating. In addition to the growing US forces stationed in the region, the UK government has started dispatching forces as well. Now, it is not only the people of Iran who have been subjected to the economic sanctions, but plans have been also drawn up to impose similar pressure on the people in Iraq. Today, no one believes that there is no risk of war simply because both the Islamic Republic authorities and Trump claim that they do not intend to go to war. The pace of the increasing tension and militarisation has heightened the threat of war. The current situation has raised the prospects of a war breaking out, irrespective of whether it is intended or not. We have all witnessed the duplicitous behaviour of the USA and its allies, and the fallacy of such claims for war as a means to “eradicate WMDs in Iraq” or to “combat Islamic terrorism”, or to “escalate democracy”! We have all seen the outcome of the wars in Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, etc, and the devastation of the lives of tens of millions. We have seen how these wars have countered the mass protests and struggles that take place against the ruling despotic states in this region. People of the Middle East, and the great majority of populations across the world, have no interest or benefit to gain from the imposition of economic sanctions or another war. The economic sanctions must be lifted immediately, as they have always resulted in more suffering for the great masses who live under continuous suppression in these countries.
We urge you to use all in your
power to put an end to the militarisation and economic sanctions. It is our
duty to call for an end to this circle of devastation. We must force these
war-mongering states to recognise that the humanity of today does not accept
another period of destruction and destitution in this second decade of the
