An Open Letter to INTERPOL

December 22, 2009

Mr. Ronald Kenneth Noble
INTERPOL Secretary General

200, quai Charles de Gaulle

France

Greetings,

We are writing this to express our outrage and denunciation of the publication of names, pictures and other specifications of twelve members and activists of the Worker-communist Party of Iran-Hekmatist on INTREPOL website.  According to the Hekmatist Party and based on the information cited on the INTERPOL’s website, “THE JUDGE OF SANANDAJ PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE” in Kurdistan Province of Iran has issued arrest warrants against these twelve opposition activists who have been political refugees in exile for many years. Their names are as follows: Asad Golchini;  Ali Abdaly, Rasool Bnavnd; Rahmat Fatehi, Abdullah Darabi,  Khaled Haj Mohammadi, Rahman Hosseinzadeh, Koorosh  Modaressi, Mozaffar Mohammadi, Tofiq Pir-Khezri, Saleh Sardari and Salam Ziji.

The nature of these charges and allegations against members of a leftist opposition group is political which aims to criminalize political activism that is against the repressive Islamic regime of Iran.  This is absolutely unacceptable. All these activists are well-known political figures and opposition members and not terrorists or organized criminals. The Islamic Republic of Iran has been extremely notorious when it comes to participating in criminal acts, organized crime, assassination of opposition members and the gross violation of human rights of people n Iran. This regime does not have any legitimacy whatsoever to issue arrest warrants against political activists. There are daily protests in Iran against this regime and the people of Iran are clearly expressing their disapproval of this regime and are risking their lives on daily basis to put an end to the brutal oppression of their rights and freedoms.

THE INTERPOL needs to answer why the names and specifications of the Iranian government authorities who have been killing, torturing and raping Iranian people and opposition members are not in its "Wanted" list instead? We strongly demand that all these twelve names to be removed immediately from the INTERPOL’s Wanted lists and to ensure that such unjustifiable act of targeting and intimidating opposition members will not be repeated.
