On the occasion of May Day

Workers! Comrades!

May day, the international workers’ day is approaching. This is our day; our day of celebrating our international unity in the struggle against the horrors and miseries that the capitalist system of wage-labour has enforced upon humanity globally.

This year, despite all the same old rhetoric of the capitalists about the “green shoots of prosperity” and the “end of years of austerity”, we have all seen lower standards of living, higher prices of basic needs, higher inflation and cuts to public services and health services in practically every country across the world. While the working people have been working harder, their share of the entire wealth that they have produced, has diminished. According to their own official figures, still a child dies, once every minute from easily treatable diseases. At a time that technology advancements are such that outer space is being explored, millions are dying from malnutrition and starvation. This is not because there is not enough food, medicine, clean water, etc, but because of a capitalist system that is prepared to sacrifice all, including the future of or children and their environment, in pursuit of ever more profits.

This year’s May Day is yet another occasion for us all to stand together and proclaim that enough is enough. This is our day to show our solidarity and to celebrate our common goal in rejecting this corrupt system and its claims that freedom and equality are nothing but myths, as “humans” by their nature are corrupt! A day to internationally point to this system of wage-labour as the root cause of all the devastation and hardships of today! This is our international day, when we celebrate our unity in struggle to rid ourselves from the chains of capital.

Comrades!
The Islamic Republic in Iran has also been making the same rhetoric too. But this year, despite economic sanctions that has targeted the people as well as the extreme pressure of the floods and devastation that has gripped the country, the protests against the Islamic regime have taken a major turn. Today it is the working class demands for a better world that have effectively dominated the scene, to such an extent that the authorities have publicly expressed their fear of major changes in the country. Everyone knows that the question now is not whether the Islamic Republic is facing its downfall, but a struggle between the alternatives to replace it. The polarisation and class struggle have much intensified in all quarters of the country. Undoubtedly, this is a struggle with an outcome that is not limited to Iran, but with reverberations across the whole region.

Comrades, amidst this struggle, on this May Day, we bring you the message of solidarity from the workers in Iran. This is yet another occasion to reaffirm our class pledge that enough is enough and that it is time to overthrow this capitalist system and reject all the divisions of gender, race, age, birth place, etc that the capitalists have enforced upon us.

Today is our day of solidarity, our day to express that we are united as a world class, and together we have a world to win.

Long live international solidarity!

Long live workers’ rule!

May Day, 2019
