In protest against the wave of arrests in Iran

The protests against unprecedented poverty, unemployment, and lack of basic rights have continued in Iran. The rising prices, inflation and unprecedented drop in the ability of people to purchase their basic needs in Iran have been the focus of the protests everywhere. Most recently, the imposed economic sanctions have further fueled the harsh conditions that people in Iran have been subjected to. Overall, apart from a select minority, the situation is dire for the great majority of the population.

The response of the Islamic Republic of Iran has, however, been nothing other than total disregard for the people in all aspects. Any protest against the existing poverty, hunger, homelessness, lack of health and safety, low pay, … is harshly suppressed. The authorities are employing every tactic of terror to contain their rule. The recent wave of arrest and imprisonment of anyone and everyone who dares or has dared to stand up and protest about this situation, is intended to force people to accept the unbearable conditions.

The authorities are well aware of the threat to their rule, following the mass protests and outpour on the streets across more than 80 cities earlier this year. The protest tore up the whole screen of propaganda of stability and popularity that the Islamic Republic authorities had portrayed. Undoubtedly, the increasing wave of arrests today, also shows the level of the fear of the authorities in all areas of the Islamic rule in Iran.

We are witnessing the beginning of the end of the Islamic Republic rule in Iran. In going through this process, the authorities should not be allowed to take more victims from the people in Iran.

The arrests and imprisonments should be stopped. We urge you to support the protests of the people in Iran, and put pressure on the Islamic Republic’s authorities to end the wave of arrests, and free all political prisoners.
