Long Live May Day!

Long Live International Unity of the Working Class!

May Day is approaching and the working class across the world is still economically at the mercy the capital; being held on the edges of a cliff, facing one of the deepest and most horrific gaps of poverty and wealth and enduring long working hours and harsh working conditions.

As far back as the late 19th century, the "Second International" called for an international day of action to demand reduction in working hours. Since then, the demands and concerns of those early advocates of the shorter working weeks not only have not been realised but we are witnessing rapid deterioration of the conditions of the working class, discrimination on the grounds of gender, race, nationality and religion is rife and child labour and work related fatalities and discrimination are on the rise worldwide.

There has never been so much wealth, resources and opportunities to cater for the well-being, prosperity and the development of all and every human being. At the same there has never been such a wide gap between the living standards of the working people and those of the ruling classes, and such a level of depravation and destitution imposed on working class. The working class has never been subjected to so much ideological and political suppression by the bourgeoisie. Such a set back on the working conditions and the livelihood of the working class has not been brought about as the result of the political, economic and military might of bourgeoisie but it is a consequence of the lack of consciousness on the part of the working class to recognise its own power. In this year’s May Day, it is incumbent on the working class leaders to redouble their efforts to tackle these shortcomings that prevent unity of the ranks and advancement of the working class.

Comrade workers!

Over the past 36 years, despite the continuous daily efforts and struggles of the working class and the oppressed masses in Iran to safeguard their livelihood and secure slightest improvement in their lives, the bourgeoisie in Iran has, in addition to enforcing a total political suppression, resorted to every possible excuse in order to not meet the demands of the working people.

In the last decade, millions of workers in Iran suffered unemployment and hardship under the pretext of fighting against the “Great Satan”, “Threat of war” and “economic sanctions”. Two years after being elected as the president of Iran, "Rouhani”, who has been hailed as the “hero” of reaching agreements with the “Great Satan” in the “nuclear disputes”, is still calling on the working people to wait for the influx of capital and investment into Iran for growth and creation of jobs. The bourgeoisie is trying to make workers accept that the only way out of the current misery is through achievement of the capitalists’ economic and political agenda.

Exploitation of the working class has created astronomical wealth and power for the capitalist classes. The capitalist in Iran have been lining their pockets at the expense of the working class.

The government and a long line of bourgeois intellectuals, whether in position or in opposition, are united in hailing nuclear agreement as the path to economic growth and prosperity. We all know that any economic growth in Iran is only possible through further exploitation, cheaper labour, and further reduction of workers share of the total wealth produce. Any capitalist growth in Iran will depend on further reduction of cost of production and imposition of more hardship on the working class - something that all sections of Iranian bourgeoisies whether in government or in opposition, are in agreement.

We have, in the recent months, witnessed a wave of workers' protests in Iran against attacks on their living condition and the standards of living. The spectre of a united class, and the popularity of communism among workers in Iran, is a constant threat to the Iranian bourgeoisie and their state. The only way out of the current deprivation and destitution imposed on working class, the only possible way out of this crisis for the society, is for the working class communists coming forth under their own distinct class banner, united in a communist party with the clear plan of action for the workers revolution. The task before us, the communists, is to what extent we can organise and mobilise the workers' socialist movement to respond to the political challenges before us.

Communist workers!

The preparation for the battles ahead lies in extending the unity of the working class,  through the growth and organisation of communist workers’ circles and making the communists of the working class the agents of uniting the largest possible masses and the ranks of workers to actively engage in the current struggles, and organising mass assemblies of all workers as the means of direct involvement of workers in determining their own fate, raising the consciousness of workers and their awareness of their class interests, and forging comradeship in the ranks of the workers. Such a preparation is our task. May Day is our day of celebration and solidarity. On this day we must try to bring workers together and actively participate in the International workers’ day celebrations while doing our utmost to isolate the efforts of all the state and the lackeys of the Rouhani’s government to turn this day into a state-sponsored celebration.

The events of the past decade and their disastrous consequences for the humanity are the result of the unrivalled rule of the “free” world of bourgeoisie – a world that has seemingly dealt with the threat of communism; a world that has seemingly wiped out any hope of political and economical liberation and socialism. However, bourgeoisie knows far too well that despite all its efforts, the ideals of humanity, equality, and the threat of the left and communist working class have not been eradicated. They have not been able to take away Marx, Paris Commune and October revolution from the working class. Today, more than ever, the whole humanity needs our unity, conscious efforts and communism!
